PRESS RELEASE: Chairman KGMRDA pays courtesy visit to MCO

The Executive Chairman of the newly minted Kogi State Mineral Resources Development Agency, Hajiya Hassiat Ozavize Suleiman paid a courtesy visit to the office of the Director - General of the Mining Cadastre Office in Abuja.

The meeting which held on this 24th June 2019, served as an introduction of the State agency to a Federal entity on mining with a view to creating synergy between both going forward.

Speaking to the Director - General, Engr. O. S. Nkom, the Chairman congratulated him on his recent installation as the 30th President of The Nigerian Mining and Geosciences Society, and stated that it was her wish to meet with and discuss areas in which the MCO can support and assist her fledgling agency in carrying out and achieving its stated mission which is to oversee issues of mining and solid minerals in Kogi State without overstepping stated bounds set by the Federal Government.

These areas, she stated, included
acquisition of mineral titles of the many commercially viable minerals on behalf of the State to enable the entering into partnerships with potential investors both local and foreign as a way to increase the IGR of Kogi State.

In his response, the Director General lauded the Executive Chairman’s initiative of taking the step and making the visit. He also congratulated her on the added responsibility and praised His Excellency, the Governor's ambition and drive to see Kogi State be a self sufficient state.

Speaking further, the DG encouraged Hajia Hassiat, stating that the MCO will always be available to assist in anyway it can, to ensure her stated objectives are achieved. Many other issues including the intricacies of community consent, revocation /relinquishment of Mineral titles from dormant holders, investment and partnership opportunities, as well as strategies to access and obtain available grants aimed at supporting and funding innovative states like Kogi State in the Solid minerals sector were also discussed.
