Okene LG Remain Collation Centre For Kogi Central; INEC

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has call for stakeholders support to enable organisation expand their office in Okene Local Government for comfortability and security reasons. The INEC Director of Operations in the State made the request at a stakeholders meeting in Okene. They solicited for land and other logistics as part of the Commission preparation towards the forthcoming goverrnorship election but maintained that, Okene Local Government remain the Collation Centre for elections in Kogi Central.


In his remark, the member representing Okene/Ogori-Magongo Federal Constituency, Hon. Ahmed Tijani Damisa enjoin INEC to forward her needs to them for adequate considerations. He maintained that, if need be and as a matter of necessity, the National Assembly members will convert their Constituency projects to develop the INEC office for uptimum performance. Speaking in the same line, the Administrator of Okene Local Government, Engr. (Mall.) Abdulrazaq Muhammad says the sorrounding lands belong to the government and promised that the work department of Okene Local Government will immediately liase with INEC for expansion as desired by the Commission.

In a final remark, the Senator representing Kogi Central, Distinguish Sen. Yakubu Oseni commended INEC for the successful conducts of the 2019 general elections and went a step further to defend their job at the tribunal. He maintain that, as a result of their diligent conduct, the elections were upheld by the tribunal. Responding to the issue in question, the lawmaker says, the commission was a creation of law which also stipulate that, Okene Local Government INEC office should be use as the Collation Centre.

While highlighting the numerous advantages in citing Okene as Collation Centre, the Senator pointed out the areas of adequate security which he said remain  number one priority for conduct of a successful election by the commission. He then promised that, the lawmakers from the Central will ensure all INEC offices in kogi Central are captured for expansion and renovation in the next National budget estimates.

All Electoral Officers in the Five Local Government of Kogi Central, Heads of Security agencies from Kogi Central, Representatives of Political Parties, Traditional Rulers, Religious leaders, Civil Society Organisations, Youth Council and Women Associations attended the meeting.
