BRIEF HISTORY OF ODOVIDI EZIOGU OF OKENGWE

According to oral history and tradition, the Odovidi chieftaincy stool was instituted as far back as 1793 by one Adayi Onimisi of Amari subclan, the father of Adayi Osesere after the later exhibited unparalleled fortitude to the happiness of his father.
It was Adayi Orenyi of Okaku subclan that was captured by a group of hunters from a neighbouring village and Adayi Osesere successfully launched a reprisal attack and dealt mercilessly with Orenyi's captors.
On his safe return, Pa Orenyi commended Adayi Osesere and compensated him with gift of Okekereku (cap made of raffia palm) and undisclosed amount of money, which he took to his father.

The father was overwhelmed and he broke kolanut thanking God for his son's achievement. At a later date, he crowned him as Odovidi Eziogu of Okengwe as a mark of honour since no able man of Eziogu extraction could venture to take the risk Adayi Osesere took on behalf of Adayi Orenyi, not even from his Okaku lineage.

This was the genesis of the institution of Odovidi Eziogu chieftaincy in Okengwe. In a nutshell, Adayi Osesere Onimisi of Amari subclan of Ogu became the first Odovidi Eziogu. He reigned for about forty (40) years.
The next to be installed as Odovidi Eziogu was Adayi Enewuma Ajinah of Amari subclan who reigned for about thirty (30) years.

The third Odovidi Eziogu was Adayi Ajiga Osesere (the son of Adayi Osesere Onimisi) who reigned for about twenty-seven (27) years from Amari subclan.

In fact, after his demise, since no one was ready to occupy the stool, Late Alh Yusuf Onujabe (Anadua) begged that his elder brother Adayi Aliyu Anikosi be allowed to hold forth for Amari, this was after late Alh Usman Abatemi, a prominent political leader had encouraged all clans in Ebiraland to exhume and dust their traditional institutions.

In the 1970s, Adayi Audu Ejivade and other prominent elders from Amari subclan agreed to the plea of Alh Yusuf Onujabe and his brother Adayi Aliyu Anikosi was made a regent while wider consultations for a substantive Odovidi was still on. He reigned for a period of twenty-five (25) years 08-08-1972 to 25-11-1997, with stringent conditions. He was reporting his meetings with Ohinoyi/Ohindase to the elders of Amari subclan. He would meet the elders of Amari whenever the IRAPA was to be appeased and certain rites to be performed.

It is imperative to state here that the Ascension and regency regime of Adayi Aliyu Anikosi was an aberration for Ehinka subclan of Ogu clan from where he belonged did not have traditional legitimacy to the stool of Odovidi Eziogu of Okengwe.

In the aftermath of his demise, the rightful heirs to the stool- Adayi Uvete and Adayi Eba descendants of Amari subclan embarked on spiritual cleansing and consultations before they picked Late Yahaya Salihu Anono to occupy the stool after seven years that Adayi Aliyu Anikosi passed on.
It's also worthy of note that due to a symbiotic relationship between the Amari's and Yusuf Onujabe family of Ehinka subclan, Late Aliyu Anikosi was allowed to held away as a regent Odovidi while the proper searching for a substantive continue till the demise of late Anikosi and peaceful transition of the stool was made back to the originator of the stool "Amari subclan" who performed the spiritual cleansing and filled in Late Yahaya Salihu Anono. Throughout the whole traditional processes, there was never an agreement and arrangement whatsoever to share the patrimony with anyone.

Late Yahaya Salihu Anono from Amari subclan became the 5th Odovidi Eziogu  he reigned for fifteen (15) years (11-09-2004 to 05-11-2019).
Then after all the necessary rites and rituals have been carried out the 6th Odovidi Eziogu in person of Alhaji Isezuo Adinoyi Anaza was coronated on the 10th of May, 2020 and was installed on the 1st of July, 2020.
