Gov. Ahmed Usman Ododo and APC Chairman Hon. Abdullahi Bello Flag Off 12.5Km Unosi–Odonto–Ogigiri Road in Ajaokuta

Unity, Vision, and Grassroots Development in Kogi State the first light of dawn had barely touched the farmlands of Ajaokuta when excitement began to spread. By sunrise, the usually quiet town of Unosi was alive with movement men, women, and children streaming in from nearby villages, carrying drums, banners, and bright smiles. This was no ordinary morning; it was a day destined to be remembered.

Under the wide, cloudless Kogi sky stood Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, radiating the quiet confidence of a leader who keeps his promises. Beside him was Hon. Abdullahi Bello (Dollar), the respected APC State Chairman, known for his deep grassroots connection and unwavering dedication to the party’s vision.

They had gathered for one purpose: to flag off the construction of the 12.5-kilometre Unosi–Odonto–Ogigiri rural road, a transformative project under the Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP). More than just a road, it was a promise fulfilled a lifeline for farmers, traders, students, and every resident along the corridor.

The crowd’s energy was infectious. Youths danced in colourful attire, elders exchanged warm greetings, and women in vibrant wrappers sang songs of praise that filled the warm morning air. Though the road was not yet laid, people could already envision it smooth, accessible, and life-changing linking farms to markets, homes to hospitals, and communities to new opportunities.

Governor Ododo spoke with warmth and resolve:

“This road is for you, the people our farmers, our traders, our children. This is your future pathway. We are building it to connect your hard work to the prosperity you deserve.”

His words struck a deep chord. No longer would the rainy season bring dread to farmers struggling to move their produce. No longer would market trips mean navigating potholes big enough to trap vehicles. Instead, this road would become a reliable artery of commerce, connection, and opportunity.

Under RAAMP, the project is designed to boost rural economic growth, reduce post-harvest losses, and secure better market prices for agricultural produce. Farmers will reach buyers faster, health workers will respond to emergencies without delay, and students will travel to school safely and on time.

The APC Chairman commended the Commissioner for Rural and Energy, Engr. Muhammed Mutalib Ihiezu, for his effective execution of the program and urged other ministries and agencies to match this level of commitment in line with the APC manifesto.

Hon. Abdullahi Bello’s turn at the microphone drew loud applause. His voice carried the authority of a leader firmly rooted in the people’s trust:

“We are here because we believe in keeping promises. The APC in Kogi State is committed to delivering on our manifesto, and with Governor Ododo, we are proving that our words are not just for campaigns they are for action.”

Bello’s message reflected the strong partnership between the government and the party a collaboration built not on political showmanship, but on tangible, visible progress. Through his tireless mobilisation and close communication with communities, he has ensured that the people’s voices shape the government’s priorities.

“When people see roads, schools, and hospitals, they see that their government values them. And when they see that, they stand with the party they stand with progress,” he added, drawing approving nods from the crowd.

Though still in its early stages, the road project is already inspiring optimism. For farmers, it promises better access to markets. For students, it means safer journeys. For patients, it could mean lifesaving access to timely medical care.

Even now, new opportunities are emerging roadside kiosks are being planned, mechanics are preparing workshops, and transport operators are mapping routes. The ripple effects will touch every household along the stretch.

Elder Musa, a respected community leader, captured the collective sentiment:

“We have waited for this for many years. We prayed, we hoped, and today our prayers are answered. This road will serve not only us but our children and their children after them.”

Governor Ododo, listening with a smile, reflected:

“It is not enough to govern. We must govern in ways that touch lives, lift burdens, and bring joy to the people we serve.”

As the sun began to set, casting a golden glow over the gathering, the Governor, Hon. Bello, and their entourage waved to the cheering crowd. Behind them, heavy construction equipment stood ready to roar into action. The message was clear: Kogi’s leadership is not waiting for the future they are building it now.

The 12.5km Unosi–Odonto–Ogigiri rural road will be more than asphalt; it will stand as a testament to the unity of purpose between a Governor and a Party Chairman who believe in action over rhetoric. Years from now, when travellers speed along this road past thriving farms, lively markets, and growing businesses, they will remember the day two leaders stood side by side and turned a vision into reality for the people of Kogi State.
