INAUGURAL SPEECH DELIVERED BY THE NEWLY INAUGURATED CHAIRMAN OF KOGI STATE POLYTECHNIC GOVERNING COUNCIL, BARRISTER SANI SHAIBU.
Distinguished members of the Governing Council, The Institution's Rector and the entire Management Team, Academic and Non-Academic Staff, Students representatives, ladies and gentlemen.
I Barr. Sani Shaibu, the Chairman of Kogi State Polytechnic Governing Council hereby express my profound gratitude and appreciation to the Chief Servant of Kogi State, His Excellency, Alh. Ahmed Usman Ododo ably represented by the Secretary to the State Government for the trust, confidence reposed in me to serve this great citadel of learning.
It's with great humility and a deep sense of responsibility that I assume office as Chairman of the Governing Council of this great institution, the Kogi State Polytechnic. I therefore humbly pledge to justify the trust repose in me as I do not and will not take this golden opportunity and honour lightly.
The Kogi State Polytechnic has been adjudged as a beacon of technical education, innovations and manpower development not just for the state but for the nation at large. The task before this council is therefore both noble and demanding which requires collective vision, sacrifice, and commitments.
The Board Chairman In a show of dedication to collaboration and inclusive governance, will be committed to working in synergy with all relevant stakeholders to advance the mission and vision of the institution. Our collective efforts will ensure we continue to provide quality education and foster an environment conducive to academic excellence.
Some of the strategic priorities which this new administration under my leadership shall be pursuing rigorously to drive and strengthen our polytechnic includes:
~ Academic Excellence and Innovative Ideas. My administration will work to promote programs and curricular that will be in tandem with global educational standard ensuring our that our graduates remain globally competitive.
~ Commitments to improving Staff and Student Welfare - We shall continue to rigorously pursue policies with direct positive impact with Staff and students while also creating enabling environment for students to excel academically and morally.
~ Improvement in Facilities and Infrastructural development - The team under my watch will explore necessary avenues upgrading and procurement of modern laboratories, ICT resources, and conducive learning environment while partnering with the State Government.
~ Partnership and Collaboration - We will deepen collaborations with industries, professional bodies, and developmental partners inorder to explore more opportunities for research, training and employment.
~ Promote Accountability and Good Governance - The Council will ensure transparency, Probity and good governance through direct engagement with relevant stakeholders and the management.
~ We Will Work Assiduously To Ensure Strict Compliance to Security Measures by partnering with security agencies and the institution's internal security for a crime-free academic environment.
As the Board Chairman, I will not fail to again commend the management of the polytechnic for taking a proactive decision in the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with the Federal University Lokoja for the commencement of regular undergraduate degree program and top-up programmes.
However, going forward, I will also interface with the Polytechnic management to present such proposal to the council for approval and endorsement on behalf of the State Governor to ensure due process and to secure greater achievements through executive support.
As I will be piloting the affair of this council, I assure His Excellency, the Governor of our collective resolve to align our programmes with the State Government's vision for educational development, youth empowerment, and economic development.
The task ahead is enormous but with the support of the Rector and the management team, we shall leave behind a lasting legacy of excellence through unity, dedication and grace of God .
