The Saga of Representation in Kogi Central — A Call Back to Distinguished Leadership

The people of Kogi Central today reflect with mixed emotions on the absence of a true voice in the National Assembly.

Our yearning stems from the remarkable tenure of Former Senator Ohere Sadiku Abubakar FNSE, who dutifully and respectfully represented Kogi Central with uncommon dignity, foresight, and loyalty to the people.

Senator Ohere was not just a parliamentarian; he was a builder of bridges between government and the governed, a man whose works continue to speak across the land.

As Chairman of the Senate Committee on Local Content, he was widely regarded as a stabilizing force offering inclusive leadership, credible representation, and impactful projects that carried the voice of Kogi Central to the very heart of national policy.

The unfolding episode around the suspension of Senator Natasha Akpoti only underscores the saying that karma is real.

The people of Kogi Central are left without a voice at a critical time in national discourse, a painful reminder that representation is not about noise but about substance.

Whereas we now face silence in the red chamber, we recall the unifying and purposeful voice of Senator Ohere, who championed the cause of infrastructure, education, empowerment, and traditional leadership harmony.

His short but impactful period in office remains a shining example that true service is measured not by length of stay, but by depth of achievement.

Senator Ohere’s record of service speaks volumes.

Before his election to the Senate, he had already built a reputation as a tested technocrat and seasoned administrator.

He first served as Special Adviser on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs under Governor Yahaya Bello, CON (2016–2019), where he worked tirelessly to re-engineer local government administration and strengthen traditional institutions across Kogi State.

Following his stellar performance, he was elevated to Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, a role in which he restored dignity, peace, and fairness among traditional rulers while ensuring harmony between state institutions and the grassroots.

In 2020, Senator Ohere was appointed Commissioner for Works and Housing, where he supervised ambitious projects in road construction, housing development, and rehabilitation efforts that changed the face of infrastructure across the state.

He held this position with distinction until 2022, when he resigned to pursue his senatorial aspiration a dream he carried out with courage, passion, and deep conviction for service.

His tenure in the Senate, though short, was marked by dedication, bills and motions in support of national growth, and grassroots empowerment programmes that touched lives across Kogi Central and beyond.

Beyond politics, Senator Ohere stands tall as a consummate professional.

A Mining Engineer with a Master’s degree from the Federal University of Technology, Akure, he is a Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (FNSE) and a seasoned civil servant who served in the Federal Ministry of Mines and Steel Development for over two decades.

He rose to management level before answering the call of his people. This strong background in engineering and administration prepared him uniquely for leadership, giving him the blend of technical expertise and people-centered service that distinguishes his legacy.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has consistently produced leaders of substance, and the case of Senator Ohere remains a glowing testament to this fact.

His commitment to party ideals, his loyalty to the grassroots, and his bond with stakeholders mark him as an asset not just to Kogi Central but to the entire APC family.

At the heart of this narrative stands FGYB, our modern leader and reformer, whose synergy with Senator Ohere Abubakar represents the strength of continuity and progressive politics.

Their bond remains unshaken, a symbol of the unity and forward-looking vision that Kogi Central and indeed Kogi State needs.

As we reflect on the current vacuum of representation in the National Assembly, the people of Kogi Central must not forget the shining example of Senator Ohere Sadiku Abubakar FNSE.

His legacy of service, merit, and composed leadership makes him the clear choice unopposed and unchallenged for a future that demands stability, experience, and proven commitment.

Kogi Central deserves nothing less, and come 2027, the mandate should be given to Senator Ohere without hesitation.
