Residents of Okene in Kogi State have appealed to Governor, Usman Ododo, to provide lighting at the Okene Cemetery

Residents of Okene in Kogi State have appealed to Governor, Usman Ododo, to provide lighting at the Okene Cemetery.

They are citing safety concerns due to prolonged darkness at the burial ground.

The appeal is contained in a letter addressed to the governor and signed by Prince Muhammed Otaiki on behalf of the Okene community.

The residents described the general outlook of cemetery as deplorable and unsafe, especially for people attending night burials.

The appeal followed a recent incident in which a snake reportedly attempted to attack one of the mourners before the cemetery caretaker, Mr. Kiyakia, intervened to prevent harm.

The community urged the state government to consider installing solar-powered lights or other suitable alternatives to enhance security and preserve the dignity of the burial site.

They expressed confidence in Governor Ododo’s commitment to citizens’ welfare and prayed for divine guidance as he continues to lead the state.
