Sen. Ohere Hails Anebira as Unity, Culture, and Heritage Take Center Stage at the Eku-Oba Procession and Okehi Festival

It's with immense joy and deep honour to celebrate this year's Eku Oba procession and Okehi festival with our Supreme Leader, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, and the Executive governor of Kogi State, Ahmed Usman Ododo. This year’s Eku Oba procession and the Okehi festival are two of the most cherished and time-honored traditions of the Ebira people. These festivals are far more than mere cultural displays; they are living stories of our ancestry, a tapestry of history, bravery, and communal values passed down through generations.

The Eku Oba masquerade procession is a magnificent spectacle, where every masked figure, every rhythmic drumbeat, and every graceful dance tells a story of courage, wisdom, and the spiritual strength of our forebears. Each masquerade embodies the spirits of our ancestors, reminding us of their sacrifices and the values that have sustained our people through the ages. The dazzling costumes, the vibrant colours, and the captivating performances are not merely for celebration. They are symbols of unity, identity, and pride, binding us together as one community.

The Okehi festival, with its joyous gatherings, songs, and dances, is a sacred celebration of togetherness. It is a time when families, clans, and communities come together to honour our shared heritage, reaffirm our bonds, and celebrate the richness of our culture. From the laughter of children to the wisdom of elders, from the beat of the drums to the rhythm of our dances, the festival fills our hearts with pride, gratitude, and hope.

As we celebrate these timeless traditions, I extend my warmest greetings and heartfelt congratulations to every man, woman, and child across Ebiraland. May the spirit of unity, peace, and cultural pride that these festivals inspire continue to strengthen our communities, enrich our heritage, and illuminate the path for future generations. Indeed, these celebrations remind us that while we embrace progress and the future, we remain firmly rooted in the values, traditions, and shared identity that make us proud Ebira people.
