We are deeply saddened by the killing of one of our brave hunters, a victim of kidnapping-related violence in Usungwe, Okehi Local Government Area of Kogi State. This unfortunate incident is a stark reminder of the urgent need to confront insecurity head-on.
I believe the government of the day is capable and must rise decisively to this responsibility. There is a need to adopt and strengthen proven security frameworks, including the security template implemented during the administration of former Governor Yahaya Bello, to effectively crush this menace.
It is unacceptable for our people to live in fear of bandits and kidnappers in Kogi State, particularly in Kogi Central. However, security must be a collective responsibility. Communities must begin to look inward and remain vigilant. If you see or hear something suspicious, speak up. Silence only empowers criminals.
Furthermore, I call on relevant authorities to convene an emergency meeting with all Hausa-Fulani traditional leaders within the area to jointly review and address this disturbing trend in the interest of peace and coexistence.
This loss is deeply personal to us. Usungwe is home, and the pain is unbearable. May Almighty Allah forgive the sins of the departed, grant him eternal rest, and comfort the bereaved family and the entire Usungwe community.
May his gentle soul rest in peace.
Ameen.
