Yahaya Bello Receives LGAN Leadership Ahead of Africa's Premier Women's Golf Championship

His Excellency Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello, CON, today received the leadership of the Ladies' Golf Association of Nigeria (LGAN), led by its President and Chairperson of the Local Organising Committee for the 2026 All Africa Challenge Trophy (AACT), Dr. (Mrs.) Lami Ahmed, on a courtesy visit ahead of Nigeria's hosting of Africa's premier women's amateur golf championship.
The delegation briefed the former Governor on preparations for the championship, scheduled for 2nd to 7th November 2026 at the IBB International Golf and Country Club, Abuja. The tournament is expected to attract participants and delegates from over 30 African countries, providing a platform to showcase Nigeria's sporting excellence, tourism potential, hospitality, and capacity to host world-class international events.
Dr. Ahmed explained that beyond the competition, the championship would leave a lasting legacy through the Girls in Golf Programme, which seeks to empower young girls with leadership, discipline, educational opportunities, and life skills through the game of golf, appealing for his goodwill, strategic support and assistance in fostering partnerships that would contribute to the successful hosting of the continental event.
In his remarks, His Excellency Alhaji Yahaya Bello, CON, congratulated the Association on securing the hosting rights and commended Dr. Ahmed for her exemplary leadership and for bringing honour to Kogi State and Nigeria. He emphasised the vital role of sports in promoting youth development, women's empowerment, national unity, and international cooperation, while expressing confidence that Nigeria would deliver a championship befitting its stature on the African continent.
The delegation commended the former Governor's aspiration to represent Kogi Central Senatorial Zone in the 11th National Assembly, assuring him of support. The meeting concluded with a commitment to advancing sports development by leveraging the championship as a vehicle for projecting a positive image of Nigeria and inspiring the next generation of African women in sport.
