OPEN LETTER TO HIS EXCELLENCY, ALH. AHMED USMAN ODODO, THE EXECUTIVE GOVERNOR OF KOGI STATE: CALL FOR THE RECONSTITUTION OF KOGI CENTRAL ELDERS COUNCIL

By Comrade Adabara Abduljelil

Your Excellency,

With profound respect and a deep sense of responsibility towards the progress of our dear state, I write this open letter to draw your esteemed attention to the urgent need for the reconstitution of the Kogi Central Elders Council. This body, if properly constituted, can serve as a vital advisory organ that will contribute meaningfully to the socio-political and economic development of Kogi Central and, by extension, the entire state.

Over the years, the role of elders in community building has been indispensable. However, to ensure inclusivity, effectiveness, and a forward-thinking approach to governance, it is imperative that the composition of the Kogi Central Elders Council be revisited to reflect a broad spectrum of credible and experienced individuals from various sectors of society.

A Call for a More Representative Council

Your Excellency, as a leader who is committed to the development and unity of Kogi State, I humbly propose that the new composition of the Kogi Central Elders Council should:

1. Include Academicians – Scholars and intellectuals bring a wealth of knowledge and innovative ideas that can propel the community forward. Their expertise in various fields is critical to policy formulation and implementation.

2. Incorporate Retired Principals and Directors – These individuals, having served in leadership capacities within educational and administrative institutions, possess the requisite experience and wisdom to provide informed guidance.

3. Ensure Representation from All Sub-Clans – It is essential that every sub-clan in Kogi Central is represented to foster inclusivity, unity, and collective decision-making.

4. Exclude Traditional Rulers from the Council – While our traditional rulers remain custodians of our culture and heritage, their role should be distinct from that of the Elders Council to avoid conflicts of interest and ensure a balance in governance and advisory functions.

The Task Ahead: A Collective Responsibility

Your Excellency, the primary task before the reconstituted Kogi Central Elders Council should be to provide strategic guidance on how the community can move forward in areas such as education, economic development, youth empowerment, security, and infrastructural advancements. The council should work hand in hand with the government and other stakeholders to formulate and implement policies that will improve the quality of life for our people.

In conclusion, I strongly believe that under your visionary leadership, a reconstituted and properly structured Kogi Central Elders Council will serve as a formidable think tank that will contribute immensely to the advancement of our dear state. I trust that you will give due consideration to this proposal in the interest of good governance and community progress.

May the Almighty continue to grant you wisdom and strength as you steer the affairs of Kogi State towards greater heights.

Yours sincerely,

Comrade Adabara Abduljelil UMAR
