Senator Ohere Celebrates Nigerian Teachers on Teachers' Day 2025

Today, as we celebrate World Teachers' Day, I want to take a moment to express my deepest appreciation for the tireless dedication of Nigerian teachers. Having served in various capacities, including as Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Commissioner for Works, and subsequently as Senator of Kogi Central, I fully understand the vital role that teachers play in shaping the future of our nation. My experience in the 10th Assembly has only further solidified my admiration for the resilience and unwavering commitment of our educators.

Despite the numerous challenges they face, teachers continue to inspire and nurture the young minds of Nigeria, laying the foundation for a brighter tomorrow. Their influence extends far beyond the classroom—affecting the social, emotional, and intellectual growth of our children. It is crucial that we recognise and reward their invaluable contributions to society.

In my previous roles, I prioritised the welfare of both teachers and students, as I firmly believe that investing in education is investing in the future of our country. This conviction remains central to my work back then in the Senate as I continued advocating for policies that improve the teaching and learning experience in Kogi State and across the nation.

As we mark this special day, I join my fellow leaders in celebrating the contributions of Nigerian teachers. I call upon the government to continue prioritising education by providing the necessary resources that will enhance the quality of teaching and learning.

For us to truly honour our educators, we must focus on key areas of development. First and foremost, improved remuneration is critical to ensure that teachers are compensated fairly for their hard work. Additionally, there should be continuous professional development opportunities to further equip them with the tools they need to thrive. Infrastructure development is also essential, as it is important to provide teachers and students with conducive environments for learning. Finally, prioritising teacher welfare will ensure that our educators remain safe, healthy, and motivated.

In conclusion, on this World Teachers' Day, let us reaffirm our commitment to supporting our teachers. I say thank you to all Nigerian teachers for your tireless dedication, your pursuit of excellence, and your unwavering commitment to shaping the future of our nation. Let us continue working together to create a brighter future for both our educators and, by extension, our nation.

Signed:

Sen. Sadiku Ohere Abubakar (FNSE)
