2027: Eziogu Demands Its Place in Kogi Central Politics

The political future of Kogi Central must reflect fairness, inclusion, and recognition of all contributing blocs. The Eziogu clan, with its undeniable numerical strength across the five local government areas particularly in Okene, Ajaokuta, and Okehi remains a formidable force that cannot and should not be ignored. When combined with the strategic support from extended family ties and in-law networks, the capacity of Eziogu to influence electoral outcomes is significant and proven.

Beyond numbers, the Eziogu people have consistently demonstrated excellence in leadership whenever entrusted with public office. Their track record speaks clearly. When compared with other sub-clans, Eziogu representatives have delivered impactful, people-oriented projects and governance that directly improved lives.

For over a decade and beyond, however, there has been a pattern of exclusion. Non-elective positions have been selectively allocated, often bypassing capable individuals from Eziogu, even when those in positions of authority benefited from the clan’s support. This imbalance is no longer acceptable.

The time has come to change the narrative. The time has come for Eziogu people to recognize their collective strength and stand united as they have done in the past. Deliberate political strategies may have been employed to push the clan out of relevance in Kogi Central, but this moment calls for a firm and peaceful response: No more marginalization.

Eziogu and Ezi Omoye have been technically sidelined in the political equation. Yet, historical records show that individuals from these groups have outperformed many currently in office. For instance, during his tenure as Local Government Chairman, Senator Ohize initiated transformative projects including two modern shopping complexes and a town hall. Likewise, Hon. Karaku played a critical role during times of crisis constructing shopping complexes, rehabilitating the Local Government Secretariat to a modern standard, building internal road networks, and improving primary school infrastructure, among other achievements.

Today, voices from the diaspora are growing louder. Eziogu sons and daughters abroad are calling for a political awakening a break from complacency and a move toward strategic participation. Power is not given; it is earned. And history has shown that without deliberate effort, Eziogu risks being confined to the margins, limited to minor positions such as ward councillorship.

We therefore call on leaders such as Rt. Hon. Momoh Jimoh Lawal and Hon. Tijani Damisa, especially following their defection to the APC, to take a stand. The current political structure has rendered many leaders ineffective in decision-making processes. This is the time to reclaim relevance by supporting credible Eziogu candidates, regardless of party lines, in the forthcoming elections.

This is not a call for conflict, but for conscious, peaceful, and strategic political engagement.

Enough is enough.

Signed:

Dr. Aaze Abdulmalik

Diaspora Chairman

Eziogu Development Union
