Senator Ohere hits the ground running;
Advocates wholistic action at curtailing negative impacts of flooding by federal government.
Those who know the antecedents of Senator Engr. Abubakar Ohere will tell you that it simply means good tidings for Kogi Central Senatorial district.
Today at the plenary session he makes special case for fund support to States prone to flooding, urges Senate to declare the menace a national challenge:
While contributing to the motion of urgent national importance on the annual flooding challenges across the country, the Senator representing kogi Central seeks the leave of the senate to consider special funding support for kogi state and all other states that are prone to annual flooding challenges.
Senator Ohere who recalled his experience while serving as a commissioner for works in kogi state explained the burden of pre and post flooding challenges especially on the critical assets of government such as roads, bridges etc.
Senator Ohere commended senator Otunba Gbenga Daniel of Ogun State for moving the motion however pleaded that the scope of the motion be expanded to cover the entire country since the situation is the same everywhere and therefore canvas centralized approach solutions.
He explained how nearly half of the local governments in kogi state are being submerged annually owing to the flooding challenges. He buttress that the confluence of rivers Niger and Benue in lokoja has made kogi state the headquarters of the annual flooding menace citing its effects from Koton Karfe up to Ganaja roads and other axis in the state.
In his conclusion and close remark, We drew a strong commitment with my constituency and Nigerians, that we are going to be committed to our ideals. It's a formidable task to get the work done and exterminate the flood menace across the country.
