Vandalization of Chief Momoh Yusuf Obaro’s billboards: A Dangerous trend that must stop

PRESS STATEMENT:

VANDALIZATION OF CHIEF MOMOH YUSUF OBARO’S BILLBOARDS: A DANGEROUS TREND THAT MUST STOP

The Obaro Campaign Organization strongly condemns the ongoing vandalization of campaign billboards and flex banners belonging to Chief Momoh Yusuf Obaro across Kogi Central Senatorial District.

These materials were strategically and lawfully placed to create awareness for his 2027 senatorial aspiration under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC). The deliberate destruction of these billboards by unknown individuals is not only unlawful but also a direct threat to peaceful political engagement in the district.

Chief Momoh Yusuf Obaro is a respected, card-carrying member of the All Progressives Congress and currently serves as Secretary General of APC-UK. He enjoys broad acceptance across party lines, which makes it difficult to attribute this act to genuine opposition politics. Instead, this points to the activities of desperate elements seeking to create tension and destabilize the political environment.

Let it be clearly stated: posters and banners are non-living materials they do not vote. Their purpose is purely to inform and create awareness. However, their destruction is provocative and capable of triggering avoidable reactions among supporters, which could escalate into broader conflict if not urgently addressed.

We therefore call on security agencies, particularly the Nigeria Police Force, to:

Immediately investigate these acts of vandalism

Identify and prosecute those responsible

Increase surveillance around political materials and public spaces

Engage stakeholders to caution their supporters against acts capable of breaching public peace

We also urge party leaders, youths, and political actors across Kogi Central to reject violence, intimidation, and destruction as tools of political expression. Democracy thrives on ideas, not intimidation.

The Obaro Campaign Organization remains committed to a peaceful, issue based campaign. However, we will not remain silent while criminal elements attempt to undermine lawful political activities.

A stitch in time saves nine. The time to act is now.

 Signed

Hon. Kokori Siaka

Director General

Obaro Campaign Organization
