Yahaya Bello: A Political Presence That Cannot Be Ignored

By Prince Muhammed Otaiki

As political activities gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections, the political atmosphere across Kogi State is becoming increasingly active. Conversations are growing, calculations are taking shape, and different possibilities are emerging. Yet, even before the campaign season officially begins, one name continues to attract remarkable attention, particularly in Kogi Central: His Excellency Alhaji Yahaya Bello, CON.

Some political figures do not need constant publicity before their influence is felt. Their records, experience, relationships and political history have already established their relevance. Yahaya Bello is one such figure.

His political journey remains closely connected to a defining chapter in the history of Kogi Central and the Ebira people. For many years, the people of Kogi Central produced distinguished Nigerians who served at various levels of government, but one major political aspiration remained difficult to achieve after the creation of Kogi State: producing an Ebira Governor.

That changed with the emergence of Yahaya Bello.

His emergence as Governor was more than a personal political achievement. It represented the breaking of a long-standing barrier and demonstrated that the highest political office in Kogi State was attainable by the people of Kogi Central.

What makes his story even more significant is that he did not emerge from a traditional political dynasty. His journey was shaped by determination, courage, preparation and the willingness to take political risks.

The events surrounding the 2015 governorship election remain an important part of that history. Following the unfortunate death of the late Prince Abubakar Audu, the political equation changed suddenly. But Yahaya Bello's earlier decision to participate in the APC governorship primaries had already positioned him for the opportunity that followed.

It was a moment that demonstrated a simple political truth: opportunity may come unexpectedly, but preparation determines who is ready to seize it.

His emergence therefore became a turning point for Kogi Central. Beyond occupying the office of Governor, it strengthened political confidence and showed many people that leadership was not reserved for a particular family or group.

Whatever opinions people may hold about his administration, his tenure undeniably changed the political calculations of Kogi State and elevated the political visibility of Kogi Central.

His years in office also gave him extensive experience in executive governance, public administration, security management, infrastructure, human capital development and stakeholder engagement. These experiences are important as conversations continue about the kind of representation Kogi Central requires at the National Assembly in 2027.

The Senate is not simply about occupying a seat. Effective representation requires experience, knowledge of government, political maturity, negotiation skills and the ability to engage national institutions on behalf of constituents.

As a former Governor, Yahaya Bello understands government from the executive side. He understands political structures, stakeholder engagement and the realities of governing a diverse state.

Beyond governance, his political influence has been strengthened by years of grassroots mobilisation and political engagement across Kogi.

As 2027 approaches, many individuals will naturally express interest in the senatorial seat. Everyone has the constitutional right to aspire and contest. However, political ambition alone does not determine strength. Record, experience, structure, relationships, grassroots acceptance and tested capacity all matter.

This is why the growing conversation around Yahaya Bello and Kogi Central deserves serious attention.

I had intended to wait for the political atmosphere to become clearer before speaking extensively, but with the campaign season set to commence tomorrow, August 19, 2026, it is becoming impossible to ignore the realities already unfolding.

The conversations are here. The calculations are here. The expectations are here. And once again, one name continues to feature prominently: Yahaya Bello, CON.

My position is based on history, experience, political strength and the belief that effective representation requires more than simply winning an election. We are not just talking about winning, but winning with massive margins.

Kogi Central deserves a senator who understands its history, appreciates its challenges and can confidently engage national institutions on behalf of the people. The district deserves representation that combines grassroots connection with national exposure.

As the campaign season begins tomorrow, the political space will undoubtedly become more competitive. More declarations will come, more campaigns will emerge and more arguments will be presented to the electorate.

That is democracy.

As a confirmed candidate ready for the ballot, his entry changes the entire equation. Even as the contest becomes louder, some political figures remain impossible to overlook.

Yahaya Bello is one of them.

To the good people of Kogi Central, I say congratulations in advance.

The journey toward 2027 has begun, and the people will ultimately decide the kind of representation they want.

For me, the message is clear, H.E. Alhaji Yahaya Bello, CON, for Kogi Central Senatorial District, 2027.

The Political Guru Kogi Central Needs.
